Pebble Time Kickstarter Raises $8,421,288 with 30 Days Still to Go

The Pebble is a smartwatch developed by Pebble Technology Corporation and released in 2013 that received the majority of its initial funding via the crowd funding platform Kickstarter. Pebble Technology Corporation raised $10.3 million through a Kickstarter campaign running from April 11, 2012 through May 18, 2012; this was the most money raised for any product on the site at that time. But when pebble a week ago started a countdown timer, no one knows that time what it will be many were guessing a colored screen smartwatch. Now its unveiled that Pebble wants to return to its roots on crowd-funding website Kickstarter for the launch of its third generation smartwatch, the Pebble Time.

On February 24, 2015, Pebble announced the third generation of their smartwatch, Pebble Time. The project reached its Kickstarter funding goal of $500,000 in 17 minutes. The project took 49 minutes to reach $1 million, which is a Kickstarter record. Till now Pebble Time Kickstarter raises $8,421,288 with 30 days still to go. Kickstarter reported the event on its twitter timeline.

Pebble Time comes with various improvements, such as a color ePaper display, a thinner casing and a microphone. It also includes a new interface designed around Timeline, similar to what is found in Google Now on Android Wear. This smartwatch retains its seven-day battery life, and is still water-resistant. The new interface will also be coming to the original Pebble and Pebble Steel in the future. It is backwards compatible with all previous apps and watch faces. It will retail for $199, but is available through Kickstarter for $179.

It seems that consumers are hungry for this smartwatch. In fact, Pebble first got its start on Kickstarter over two years ago when it raised over $10 million, proving there’s enough interest out there for big tech companies to start taking the concept seriously. Pebble went on to sell 1 million watches over two years, making it the most successful company in the business. Tech giant Apple is also going to release its smartwatch which believed to gain more popularity after its launch.

Pebble officials released a statement after popularity of Pebble Time:

Seven hours in and all of us here at Pebble HQ are absolutely stunned by the enthusiasm you’ve had for Pebble Time. We had hoped you’d like what we’ve been working on…but you never know for sure until you launch!  The good news is that you’ve made it crystal clear. And we thank you immensely for this.

Fore more information based on its specifications and review we’ll publish a separate article. So stay tuned.
