After a long wait, it appears Motorola has finally unlocked its Motorola Update Services update for the users of Moto X (1st Gen), which is essential for Motorola users to do so in order to update their devices to Android 5.0, Lollipop. This means that in near future Motorola users of the original Moto X will get Android Lollipop update.

The description under the update suggest that all users with Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto E and Moto G (1st Gen.)  should accept this update because this update is necessary to enable a future upgrade of your device to Android 5.0, Lollipop. This is an update to the over-the-air (OTA) installer that downloads system updates.

According to Motorola’s Luciano Carvalho Google+ post on Mar 14, 2015, Motorola the original Moto X 2013 will be updated to Android 5.0.2 and user test phase has already been started. He also wrote that the company has no current plans to bring Android 5.1 to the device.

So folks with Moto X 2013 can get this update now and wait for lollipop to come. You can update your Motorola Update Services here
